A prayer covenant lifestyle is one of accountability–committing to pray the prayer covenant not only for yourself but for others, agreeing on a number of days – most often 30 or 40. Following Jesus together is both rich and rewarding, it strengthens your relationship with God and with those for whom you pray. It may be a friend, a spouse, a child, a co-worker…whoever God lays on your heart. Just step out and begin a prayer journey with that person and watch how God blesses in you, through you and between you.
Jeremiah 31:3 reads, I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
Love Overcomes All
To personally know God’s love, the depth of love that overcomes guilt, uncertainty, fear and insecurity, is to know the love of a perfect father. Some of us have been blessed to be born into a family where God’s love is modeled in your father or mother, but many have not had that privilege. It is hard to imagine the love of our Abba, our heavenly Father, if we have been hurt or felt unloved by our earthly father.
Take heart. Do you know the darkest moment in the life of Jesus? When He hung on the cross taking on the sins of the entire world, in that moment He was separated from the Father’s love crying out in a loud voice, My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46).
You Are Never Alone
Maybe you have felt forsaken, unloved and deserted. You are not alone.
Jesus felt the agony of rejection amidst inconceivable physical pain. Isaac Watts captured the essence of what Jesus endured when writing “love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all” (When I Survey the Wondrous Cross) . Isaac Watts was a pastor, theologian and a hymn writer, writing approximately 750 hymns in his lifetime. Although written in the 1600s, they are still being sung today, enduring the test of time. Part of my ministry in past years has been teaching children these great hymns of the faith, so rich in doctrinal truths.
Prayer
As we close our time, Spend time meditating on Jeremiah 31:3 “I have loved you with an everlasting love,” and purpose in your heart to receive the Father’s love and help you show that same love to others. Together let’s pray, Thank you gracious Father for your grace that has made me one of your dearly loved child. Help me love you with my whole heart. Empower me to love others the way you love me. In Jesus name, Amen.
